Angel and Beans' Big Day

Angel and Beans' Big Day

On Saturday, January 25, the BARCS community came together for a first-of-its kind event: a sold out Dog Wedding. Attendees got dressed to the nines to celebrate the doggy marriage of Angel and Beans, two very special BARCS dogs.

Angel Snyder came to BARCS in 2017 because her former owners were not able to afford the care she needed. At the time, she was a cute puppy just shy of eight months old, but the family noticed that Angel was wobbling. It wasn’t your normal unsure-of-my-body, clumsy puppy legs—it was something much more serious. After dozens of tests, including neurological exams, our team determined that she would need surgery. During surgery, it was revealed that Angel’s spine was not just pinching her spinal cord, it was severing it. After her spinal surgery, Angel received a wheelchair to help her move around. Just a few weeks later, Angel was acting like a puppy again—happy, playful and silly—and she’s continued to surprise everyone in her long recovery. Whether Angel’s aware of her special condition or not, she has no interest in letting it affect all the dog things she wants to do. Now, she loves making mischief in her wheelchair and munching on delicious treats.

Beans Morabito was brought to BARCS in 2016. Animal Control found him covered in bite wounds, both new and old—he seemed grateful for his rescue. During his intake exam, our veterinary team noticed that Beans would not put his full weight on his left front leg. X-rays confirmed that his leg was injured, likely from previous trauma, and had not healed correctly. His leg doesn’t slow him down though—Beans loves running around with his family and taking care of his family’s foster animals. In early 2019, Beans got his big break on TV as a star of Animal Planet’s Dog Bowl. He was a fierce competitor who loved his moment in the spotlight. Now, Beans enjoys napping on the couch and hanging out with his favorite people.

The wedding festivities kicked off that evening with a cocktail hour followed by the ceremony. Angel and Beans were very excited to exchange their vows and make their doggy marriage “pawficial.” Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed dinner, dancing and drinks. Angel and Beans also got the chance to cut the cake and enjoy a special champagne toast in their honor.

BARCS raised $31,000 from the wedding in donations while spreading awareness for Baltimore's homeless, neglected and abused animals. To top off the good news, we revealed that Bill Miller of Miller Value Partners has generously pledged to match all donations, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000 for the Medical Care Fund through February 9. Our wedding guests helped kick off the match by giving more than $500 that evening in honor of the happy couple.

We’d like to thank our event partners, Lord Baltimore Hotel, for generously donating their gorgeous Grand Ballroom for the wedding. We were honored to work alongside you on this event, and your team is second to none!

Many special thanks are in order for our generous sponsors, including Katrina Owens and family in memory of Foxy Belle, Ollie, Heidi, Domino & Okie Owens; Betty Lou Events; Furever & Fur Always - Wedding Day Dog Care; Blue Pit BBQ & Whiskey Bar; Hoopla Catering; CakeByJason; Mixing Maryland DJs; Kait Bailey Photography; JAW Studios; Stephanie G Calligraphy; Fleur De Lis Florist; Pretty Little Wedding Co.; Tito's Handmade Vodka; Peabody Heights Brewery, LLC; Hoop Tea; Black Acres Roastery; Pet Valu - US; Harbour Sign & Graphics, LTD; Elizabeth G Hair; and Picture Perfect - Makeup by Chrissy. Each of you played an important role in making this event a major success.

Thank you to the Morabito and Snyder families for giving us the opportunity to join Beans and Angel together in doggy matrimony. The bride and groom are so special to BARCS, and their union is one of Baltimore’s great love stories.

Thank you to our selfless BARCS foster families who cared for the kitten bridesmaids before they walked down the aisle. We think you’ll agree they were the “purr-fect” bridal party. One kitten had an extra special evening—they were adopted by a wedding guest!

We'd also like to give a double shout out to Betty Lou Events and Furever & Fur Always Wedding Day Dog Care. This awesome team helped us secure sponsors and recommended our great vendors. The staff donated their time to ensure that Beans and Angel had a flawless evening.

And last, but not least, thank you to everyone who joined us on the night of the Dog Wedding. Thank you for getting dressed up and partying the night away! Angel and Beans couldn’t have asked for a better wedding day.

We already can’t wait for next year! Congratulations again, Beans and Angel.
