Pawject Runway (Cancelled); Canine, Feline, Drink Wine (Postponed); Spring Bingo (Postponed)
PAWJECT RUNWAY - CANCELLED: Like everyone, we have been closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19. After watching the number of cases multiply, and knowing that the only way to stop its spread and protect our community’s health is to avoid public gatherings, we are canceling this year’s Pawject Runway, scheduled for Saturday, April 4. We believe it’s the responsible thing to do, although it’s a heartbreaking decision to have to make.
This event involves two organizations, 50 Softies from around the country, multiple sponsors and untold hours spent coordinating and planning. The proceeds from this one night represent the annual budget for Show Your Soft Side and are critical to helping BARCS cover the costs of caring for more than 12,000 homeless and abandoned animals each year. To say the cancellation is devastating would be an understatement. It will, undoubtedly, impact the work of both organizations, but given the situation, it’s the right thing to do.
Over the course of the next few days, we will announce virtual plans to get the animals currently slated to appear in Pawject Runway adopted into loving homes. Our Softies have already agreed to do whatever they can to help. So many companies and businesses have given generously, and that is one element of the event that we can hold without risking anyone’s health. And, of course, any ticket and/or sponsorship donations will be refunded upon request.
Our annual online auction is rescheduled to now launch on Sunday, April 12 with a conclusion and winners announced on the evening of Thursday, April 23. This year, more than ever, we are counting on our online auction to help with lost revenue from the runway show cancellation. We hope that you will join us in bidding to raise money and save the lives of vulnerable animals in our community.
We are deeply indebted to our Softies, our sponsors, our volunteers and our supporters who have been with us through this difficult journey. Your commitment and friendship mean the world to us.
CANINE, FELINE, DRINK WINE - POSTPONED: In the interest of addressing the health and safety concerns of attendees and volunteers, and in consultation with our event partners, the Canine, Feline, Drink Wine! team has decided to reschedule this event until the fall. The event is being rescheduled for a Sunday in September or October, and we will share the new date once it is finalized. The format of the event, location and time will remain the same for the new date (3-6 p.m. at Second Chance). We hope you understand this decision was made in the best interests of our community and supporters.
All tickets purchased for the original date of March 22 will be valid for the new date in the fall, which we hope to announce in the coming months. If you are a ticket holder, please continually check your email for updates. Ticket holders have the option of transferring their ticket to a friend, converting their unused ticket into a donation, or connecting with a BARCS team member to issue a refund.
SPRING BINGO IN LOCUST POINT - POSTPONED: In the interest of addressing the health and safety concerns of attendees and volunteers, BARCS Spring Bingo in Locust Point has been postponed until a further date. We are currently considering a number of potential date alternatives to create the best possible experience for our community.
All tickets purchased for the original date of March 13 will be valid for the new date when announced. If you are a ticket holder, please continually check your email for updates. Ticket holders have the option of transferring their ticket to a friend, converting their unused ticket into a donation, or connecting with a BARCS team member to issue a refund.
