Those Golden Years

At BARCS, we genuinely appreciate the unique charm of senior animals. Despite their wisdom and sweetness, they often encounter challenges in finding homes. Factors like age, health conditions, appearance, or a quieter demeanor can make them a bit more overlooked compared to their younger counterparts. Yet, there are those who cherish the tranquility of old age. They are drawn to the wisdom embedded in their personalities, the peacefulness that accompanies age, and the gratefulness that stems from second chances, all while remembering the warmth of a home… just like sweet senior kitty Snorlax.

“We adopted Snorlax earlier in 2023 to join us, our two cats, and a fun loving dog. We heard that Snorlax had unexpectedly lost his previous person so we just knew we needed to give the old man a place to relax and be surrounded by a ton of love. It took him a few months to come out of his shell but we didn't mind; we were happy just watching him roll around on the brick patio soaking up the sun. At first, he was very nervous and jumped at any noise or motion in his direction and honestly, he can still be on high alert more than our long term residents. However, every day it seems he is doing something to surprise us! Most recently, he showed us that he loves to be picked up - on his terms, of course. If we bend over to pet him, he puts his front paws on our shoulder and hops up and begins loudly purring.

“Sadly, just last week we had to say goodbye to one of our cats, Bruce Wayne, after finding out his sickness was in fact cancer. Snorlax's presence didn't erase the heartbreak but his sweet meows and evening cuddles made the pain easier to carry. Without him our home would surely be too empty for our liking. I'm so thankful to BARCS for bringing us together and giving other animals a chance to find their forever home or even their second home.”

For those who see past their age, seniors give a distinctive charm that warms your heart. Age becomes a mere backdrop to the boundless love, joy, and steadfast loyalty they generously offer. Senior animals are a great addition to any home, and we are forever grateful to Snorlax's family for giving him a second chance.
