On Thursday, May 16th, Bengies is holding a special night to support BARCS. BARCS is a non-profit organization that operates Maryland's largest animal shelter and pet adoption center.

Bengies is one of the few places where you can bring your pet to watch a movie, and we know that our patrons love their pets, so we invite you to join us with your furry friend on May 16th to support the fantastic work that BARCS does. Almost all of the ticket sales from this night will be donated to BARCS.

We have an exciting evening planned featuring the family-friendly movie “SCOOBY-DOO” (2002), rated PG. We will have some fun and exciting activities leading up to the show, such as:

Find the love of your life at the upcoming “Spring Fling Mega Adopt-a-thon” event on Saturday, April 20! This extra special event is sponsored by Petco Love, Pimlico and a generous gift by BARCS Board Member Joe De Francis.

BARCS will be joined by the Maryland SPCA, the Baltimore Humane Society and Baltimore County Animal Services for an adoption event at Pimlico Race Course. This “mega” adoption event is the largest in the Baltimore area and surrounding counties. Adoption fees will be WAIVED for all animals – including dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and small companion animals.

The event will take place in the Grandstand 2nd Floor and Triple Crown Room from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Pimlico Race Course is located at 5201 Park Heights Ave. Baltimore, MD 21215. 

Families are able to bring home their new furry friends the day of the event. All adoptions are first come, first served. Standard adoption procedures still apply. 

Adoption Information:

• Adopters need to bring a valid photo ID and proof of current address. Adopters must be at least 18 years of age.

• Adopters may NOT bring their current pets to the event. Adoption counselors from each shelter will be giving all adopters very thorough instructions about acclimating new pets to homes with existing pets.

BARCS is collaborating with Blaze Adventure Tours to take some of our adoptable animals on a walk for a cause. Join us on Sunday, April 7th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, MD.

Blaze’s walk is both a fundraiser and a celebration of life in honor of Blaze and all the other dogs who have been lost to canine lymphoma. The goal is to raise money for The Perseus Foundation in order to help provide costly life-saving treatment to dogs for bone marrow transplants, the only cure for canine lymphoma. Here's what the day has in store:

Yes, it's back and better than ever for 2024! Pawject Runway, presented by Petco Love, is the hippest fashion show on four paws featuring a five-star lineup of Show Your Soft Side’s Big Softies "modeling" adoptable cats and dogs from the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS). Guests can rub furry bellies and rub shoulders with famous faces from the sports, television, news media and rock worlds.

This year, Pawject Runway will be held on Thursday, April 4 at the renovated and glamorous CFG Bank Arena. The event benefits BARCS and the Show Your Soft Side anti-abuse campaign.

Waived Adoption Fees for All Animals this Weekend!

If you've been searching for a new furry friend, this weekend is a great time to adopt. Patient First is generously sponsoring all of the adoption fees for every animal March 1-3! This includes animals in the shelter, in foster homes and at offsite events.

As Baltimore’s only open-admission shelter, BARCS cannot and will not turn away an animal in need. The shelter has continually been at or over capacity with so many dogs coming through our doors each day. Patient First heard our plea, and has stepped up to help more animals leave BARCS and find loving homes.

The event will take place onsite at BARCS Animal Shelter located at 2490 Giles Road, Baltimore, MD 21225 during regular operating hours. BARCS is open from 2-6 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekends. Adoption fees will also be waived at any offsite events. The $10 license fee still applies to Baltimore City residents.

We’ve partnered with Heavy Seas to give you an exciting chance for your pet to be featured on our upcoming collaboration beer can! This year there will be two cans - one pet will be featured on each can. Dogs, cats and small animals* are all welcome to enter! The winners will have their pet drawn by Heavy Seas' own artist and printed on the cans of their upcoming brew.

Donate $10 per entry from February 26 - March 6 and 100% of the proceeds will go to BARCS. The winners will be announced on March 8. Unlimited entries allowed; must be 21+ to enter. Only one pet will be featured on each can.

Back again in 2024! Tats for Tails at the Baltimore Tattoo Museum on Sunday, Feb. 18 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.*

100% of each tattoo (selected designs or at artists’ discretion) will be donated to the homeless animals at BARCS! Tipping your artist is highly encouraged, as they are donating all of their time.

*Attendees will be served by ticketed number. You must be present in line to receive your number. In other words, no holding spaces for friends.

The more people who get tattooed the more we can raise for the homeless animals. Invite your friends and spread the word!

The night isn't over after the Dog Wedding comes to an end! The After Pawty is walking distance from the venue. Join us at the B&O Brasserie located in the Kimpton Hotel Monaco as we toast the newlyweds and keep the good times going. Everyone is welcome to attend, no tickets required.

For more than a year, Pippa and Munch lived only a few city blocks away from each other. Both dogs were social butterflies around the neighborhood, with Pippa even reaching national stardom for her adoption story, but the two had never crossed noses. One crisp fall afternoon, all of that changed. Both pups were out for walks with their moms in Riverside Park in South Baltimore when their eyes met. It was love at first… “body slam?”

Munch, who’s a little wobbly on his feet, crashed right into Pippa. Sturdy on her feet, Pippa didn’t seem to mind. This meant a lot to Munch because his unsteadiness often makes other dogs upset and uneasy. As their moms chatted and tossed them treats, Pippa appreciated that Munch let her eat ALL of the cookies without hesitation. While eating grass and rolling in leaves, Pippa shared with Munch that she recently completed a long “Bucket List” after outliving her cancer diagnosis, but there was just one thing left: To find true puppy love and a best friend…

…to wag and to hold, from this day forward, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish always.

BARCStoberfest, Presented by Met Life Pet Insurance, is BARCS' annual, large-scale, pet-friendly festival and fundraiser that benefits the lifesaving programs and animal care at our shelter. The Patterson Park festival includes the annual "Ready, Set, SNIFF!" 5K Run/1-Mile Walk Sponsored by State Farm Agent Cyndi Kuhn, Howl-o-Ween Pet Costume Contest, Barkin' Beer Garden vendors, kids’ activities, and more! Fundraising leading up to BARCStoberfest raises critical funding for Maryland’s highest volume, an open-admission shelter serving 10,000 animals per year. Our goal this year is $350,000, so please join us to raise funds for our community's needy animals.

A portion of proceeds from classes throughout the day will benefit BARCS. Located conveniently in Harbor Point, each 45-minute class will challenge you to push your limits through resistance indoor cycle mixed with upper body toning.

The event is from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. and will also include raffle baskets, a bake sale and 50/50 raffles. The snack bar will be open with food and beverages available for purchase.

On Sunday, September 17, 2023, BARCS is teaming up with our friends at Shotti's Point to raise money for our animals and lifesaving programs.  Patrons can bring their dogs to the outdoor space, money will be raised through % of sales, special give-back Tito's drinks, raffles and sales of all new super-cute BARCS merchandise.

Did you miss the chance to purchase Bark in the Park tickets? You may not be able to take your pup to the game on September 13, but you can attend the game to raise money for BARCS and sit behind the dog section!

Tickets are $25 for the Lower Reserve and proceeds will benefit BARCS. The game is at 6:35 p.m. against the St. Louis Cardinals. Tickets are for humans only.
