Group + Workplace Volunteering

Your group loves animals. We love animals. Let’s work together to make a difference! BARCS (Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter) offers hands-on group volunteer opportunities focused on dog-walking, along with other impactful shelter support activities based on our current needs. Your participation helps us care for and find homes for thousands of animals each year. Book your group experience today and be a part of our lifesaving mission!

  • Group volunteering at BARCS is centered around dog-walking. However, since BARCS is an open-admission shelter, the number of animals in our care can vary. If there are fewer dogs available for walks on your volunteer day, your group may be asked to assist with other shelter tasks such as organizing donations, creating enrichment activities, or helping with kennel maintenance.

  • To ensure a safe and effective volunteer experience, groups must consist of 6 to 16 participants, all of whom must be 18 years or older. This allows us to organize everyone safely and efficiently for dog-walking and other activities.

  • Group volunteer shifts are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the following times:

    • 11 AM–1 PM

    • 1 PM–3 PM

We are unable to accommodate group volunteering on other days or times, so please be sure to choose a shift that aligns with our available schedule.

    • Health Insurance: All participants must have their own health insurance to volunteer at BARCS.

    • Dress Code: Volunteers must wear long pants and flat, close-toed shoes to ensure safety while around animals. If volunteers are not dressed appropriately, they will be unable to participate.

    • Registration: Each volunteer must pre-register online before attending, providing a valid email address and basic information.

  • Corporate groups are asked to partner with BARCS through a $500 donation or more. This donation helps us cover the costs of supplies, staff time, and the coordination needed to manage group volunteer experiences. Your support helps fund our lifesaving work for animals in need.

We can’t wait to welcome your group and work together to make a lasting impact for Baltimore’s animals!
