Resources for Those Facing Domestic Violence

In homes where there is domestic abuse, it’s not just the people who are at risk; animals are often targeted as well.

BARCS is committed to aiding individuals facing domestic violence through our programs and services. Understanding that many victims delay leaving abusive situations out of fear for their pets' safety, BARCS provides emergency boarding for pets belonging to individuals fleeing abusive situations. We recognize the critical role pets play in survivors’ lives and are dedicated to offering a supportive, compassionate environment where both human and animal welfare are prioritized. Beyond immediate shelter and care, BARCS also collaborates with local and national advocacy organizations to provide comprehensive support. Below is a list of options for pet owners facing violence:

Please email resource@barcs.org or call us at 410-396-4695. We understand that emails and calls are not a safe option in many situations. Those in need of help may also come directly to our shelter to speak to a member of our Community Resources Team–no appointment is needed.
