The Importance of Grooming for Happy, Healthy Pups

At BARCS, we encounter a wide range of cases daily. While some of our shelter animals have challenging stories, we also witness what we fondly call 'BARCS Daily Miracles' – the daily positive stories and outcomes that occur within our walls, reinforcing our staff and volunteers commitment to our lifesaving mission.

Today, we'd like to share with you 13-year-old Cashmere's story. Cashmere arrived at BARCS through no fault of his own when his previous owner could no longer care for him. Cashmere didn’t arrive at BARCS looking his best, being a long-haired non-shedding pup, he requires regular grooming to prevent matting, which can lead to skin lesions, infections, and mobility issues. In the 'before' picture, Cashmere needed urgent help, he was covered in matting all-over his tiny body which created a prison of his own fur. Our wonderful volunteer, Pam, who we can’t praise enough, has dedicated much of her time to grooming our shelter animals, and gave Cashmere his long-overdue grooming. He was so happy to be freed from his furry prison, he felt like a new dog! And we are all so happy that he now feels comfortable in his own skin again! Thank you, Pam, for all that you do for our shelter animals.

Cashmere embarked on the next leg of his journey with one of our wonderful rescue partners, where he'll continue healing. We're confident that this sweet senior pup will soon find a loving home to enjoy his golden years. We hope Cashmere's story has touched your heart as much as it has touched ours.

If you're a pet groomer and can volunteer your time and skills to assist our shelter animals, please get in touch with our volunteer office at volunteers@barcs.org. And remember, you can make a difference in the lives of shelter animals like Cashmere by adopting, donating, volunteering, or even just helping us spread the word!
