Love Heals All Wounds

Our shelter is home to animals who arrived here for various reasons. Some were brought because their owners could no longer care for them due to circumstances beyond their control. Others found themselves alone when their owners passed away. Some ended up here because their previous situations weren't good, while others were wandering the streets as strays.

Daphne, now named Panini, falls into the last category. She was discovered as a stray in a yard by a concerned citizen who contacted Animal Services. When they reached her, she was curled up and wouldn't move. Despite her condition, she allowed the officers to leash and carry her. Once at the shelter, it became apparent that she was covered in scars from previous bites and scratches. We don't know the exact cause of her scars, but during her stay at BARCS, she displayed resilience, gratitude, and a trusting nature. These qualities reflect the miracles we witness every day with our shelter animals.

Daphne was adored by the staff and volunteers at the shelter, and she didn't have to wait too long to find a loving home. She found an incredible one. Her mom loves her deeply and recognized that Daphne was a special dog who was just beginning to learn what it means to be loved in return and to live in a safe, warm household. We couldn't be happier to share the news of her healing love.

Here is what her mom had to say: “We adopted Daphne/Panini in April, and she's been an incredible addition to my family!

“When we first met her, she was covered in scars from her previous life and quite timid. Today, she's adorable, confident, attached to my hip, and a loving, lovable pup! Most of her scars are barely visible now. ❤️

“We are immensely grateful to BARCS for your thorough care and support of all your pups and cats, as well as your support for adopting parents. I enthusiastically recommend your organization to anyone who asks about Panini.”

Thank you to Daphne’s (Panini’s) mom for letting us know she is thriving and for inspiring us and others to open their homes to adopt a shelter animal, despite their scars.
