Keeping Pets With Families Fund
Lifesaving Fund:
BARCS' Keeping Pets With Families Program believes that beloved family pets should not find themselves homeless and in shelters when resources and solutions exist to help them.
About This Fund:
BARCS’ Keeping Pets With Families program is working diligently to close the gaps of veterinary care in city neighborhoods. When we provide resources and services to pet owners in need, they have one less stressor to focus on. Here in our community, most issues surrounding animal welfare, including neglect, abuse and homelessness, stem from a lack of resources, fear of judgment and lack of readily available services. The KPWF Program not only keeps animals out of the shelter and off the streets but also gives tangible relief of a major stressor that can cause significant anguish for pet owners. With their companion animals taken care of, one less barrier exists for pet parents to enjoy their lives and their communities without the added burden of wondering how they will care for a beloved friend and family member. BARCS is focusing our mission on animal social services and compassionately serving families in crisis, a model that takes the best lessons learned from human social services, public health, education, animal welfare and other fields.
Program Initiatives:
When owned animals receive the resources they need, they don’t end up homeless. BARCS' Keeping Pets With Families initiative has several programs designed to empower our community to better care for their pets:
Intake prevention with low-cost or free resources
Low-cost and free community vaccine days
Emergency and crisis boarding
Access to care for medical emergencies
In addition to these services, BARCS has longstanding programs that give our community access to free TNR services for outdoor cats and free training and behavior advice for City residents who are at the point of surrender. These lifesaving programs are working to help pet owners in need receive the care and attention their animals need, making it much less likely for them to give up their animals.
Support Families:
Our vision for the future is to continue to grow and support programs that get lost pets home quickly, help pet owners who are struggling to meet their pets’ needs, and preserve families, leaving the kennels in our shelter reserved for only those pets who truly need to be here. But, we need your help!
