Cellie

Baltimore City Animal Control received a call about a dog thrown away in a silver trash can. The dog was severely matted, unable to move, and in excruciating pain. Officers brought her back to BARCS to be seen immediately by our shelter veterinary team. We named her Celadon, Cellie for short.

Her emergency exam at BARCS revealed that the severe matting of her fur had cut off circulation to her right hind paw causing it to become necrotic and fall off. We quickly transported Cellie to one of our emergency Franky Fund partners, where she was shaved down under anesthesia. Her right leg, where her paw had fallen off, needed to be completely amputated. Additionally, they discovered a very infected and painful wound on her left hind leg, also likely from the severe matting. Because of her condition and immobility, Cellie was deliberately thrown away in that trash can and left to die.

After her surgery, Cellie was placed in a loving foster home for recovery. While there, her foster mom fell deeply in love with her—and once she was healthy enough, Cellie became a permanent member of her family.

Donate now and give the gift of health and life. BARCS’ Franky Fund cares for nearly 900 animals each year with extraordinary medical needs. The costs to save their lives is outside of our annual budget, and so the Franky Fund relies completely on private donations. 100% of your gift today will help the animals listed below and others like them.
