Kiwi

Baltimore City Animal Control officers responded to a call about a young lost dog who was very weak and had difficulty standing. Witnesses at the scene stated that the dog had been outside all night, tied to a fire escape.

Kiwi, as we named her, was in desperate need of critical medical care. She has lacerations on her face, and when our veterinary team examined her, it was clear she was in a lot of pain. Due to the severity of her condition, we rushed her to an emergency veterinary clinic. The clinic took X-rays, which revealed multiple rib fractures. A few fractures had callous formations, which means they were older and healing, and a few were even displaced. As if that’s not enough, poor Kiwi also had suffered pulmonary contusions resulting in internal bleeding in her abdomen.

To ensure she had a good quality of life moving forward, Kiwi received a forelimb amputation. The healing process took several weeks, but before she knew it, Kiwi was feeling much better! She was soon adopted into a loving home.
