Persephone

Persephone arrived at BARCS after concerned citizens discovered her abandoned with a potentially injured leg. They promptly contacted Baltimore City Animal Control, who brought her to the shelter and safety.

While we don't know how she ended up alone on the streets or the cause of her injury, it was evident that this sweet pup was in pain and required immediate medical attention. Following an evaluation by our veterinary team, it was determined that her right back leg had sustained a severe displaced fracture and could not be saved. Consequently, the decision was made to transfer her to our compassionate Franky Fund partner, where she could undergo the necessary leg amputation surgery that would help her lead a healthy life and get her ready for adoption.

Throughout this challenging journey, Persephone displayed incredible bravery, trust, and patience with those who took care of her, endearing herself to everyone who had the joy of meeting her. After undergoing her surgery, Persephone returned to BARCS to recover in one of our staff offices. Soon after, Persephone was adopted!

Donate now and give the gift of health and life. BARCS’ Franky Fund cares for nearly 900 animals each year with extraordinary medical needs. The costs to save their lives is outside of our annual budget, and so the Franky Fund relies completely on private donations. 100% of your gift today will help the animals listed below and others like them.
