Foster Us!

While all animals that come through BARCS are potential foster candidates, the following dogs and cats highlighted below would especially benefit by a break from our shelter. Read about their personalities and needs below.

Dogs Looking for Foster Homes

  • Daisy Mae

Daisy Mae is a sweet and gentle soul. She is a happy girl who walks very well on her leash, preferring a leisurely pace that allows her to take in her surroundings. She shows interest but remains non-reactive when passing other dogs. Daisy Mae is housetrained, knows "sit," and was a very good girl during her bath. Affectionate and responsive, she loves leaning into you for pets and shows her sweet, shy nature. Daisy Mae would do best with a calm and tolerant friend, she requests to meet any doggie roommates to make sure they are a good match. She has been a little stressed here in her kennel and would be much more comfortable in a foster home.

  • Nerf

Meet Nerf! She is shy when she first meets you, but once she trusts you, she is very sweet! This smart girl also knows sit. This beautiful girl is a very slow and mellow walk. She will engage to take treats and is super gentle. She came to the shelter because she was not a good fit for her family, but she was described as affectionate and independent. She is also housebroken and crate trained. She loves playing tug of war and her favorite snack is blueberries. Nerf has been a little nervous here at the shelter and is much more comfortable in a home. Please consider fostering her today!

  • Kimbo

Kimbo is a medium-sized guy at just 41 lbs and is under 2 years old. He has the best puppy dog eyes that can make your heart melt! He recently arrived at the shelter as a stray and has understandably been overwhelmed here. He is a sweet boy who is full of energy and loves to explore. He enjoys long walks where he can sniff everything along the way. Kimbo is still learning some manners and can be a bit jumpy and mouthy when he gets excited, so we would love for him to go to a foster home where he can thrive.

  • Licorice

Licorice is a playful, happy-go-lucky, and handsome young guy. He is the sweetest and goofiest love bug full of energy but also loves his gentle cuddle time. He walks wonderfully on his leash, and is such a fun play buddy. Licorice is an affectionate and loving boy. He likes nothing more than cuddling up with his best human friend after a fun day together. He has been in a short term foster and did wonderfully in the home. He walks well on leash, goes into his crate at night without a problem, and enjoyed being in a home environment. He gets very stressed here in the kennels, so we would love to find him another foster home where he can be more comfortable.

  • Tanthony

Meet Tanthony! This young fun silly boy has the cutest head tilt. He enjoys jumping up on the tree stumps, and would probably be an agility champion. He knows sit and waits patiently for a treat. He will run after the ball and will bring it back (ish). He also loves playing with a stuffie and will sit close to his human friends while he is enjoying his toy. When he's finished in the play yard, he likes to walk on the trails, he checks in often and was not reactive to anyone who passed by him. Tanthony was understandably nervous coming into the shelter and we think his personality would continue to blossom in a loving foster home.

  • Penguin

Meet Penguin, a sweet and wiggly girl who came to BARCS through our partnership with Animal Control. Penguin’s tail doesn’t stop swishing during her walks! She may be a little shy at first, but she quickly warms up and loves to explore with curiosity and caution. While she enjoys brief head pets and scratches, she’s always on the move, eager to continue her adventures. Penguin is a fan of running and playing fetch in the yard, and she’s been a star in our Dog’s Day Out programs, where she’s shown how much she loves exploring. She would love to go to a foster home where she can continue to come out of her shell and work on her leash skills as well.

Cats Looking for Foster Homes

  • Stardust Callie

Stardust Callie came to the shelter after her owner was no longer able to care for her. She has been very stressed in the shelter environment, but was described as sweet and cuddly in her previous home. She has been around other cats along with dogs and young children and did well with all of them. We would love to move Stardust Callie into a foster home where she can be in a more comfortable environment and show off her true personality.

  • Siete

Beautiful Siete was initially quite confused about being placed in a kennel and was very fearful/wasn’t really interested in much interaction. However, after some time here, she has relaxed and has really blossomed into quite the social sweetheart, readily seeking pets and purring loudly. Despite this progress, Siete still seems a bit frustrated in the kennel as she is quick to overstimulate while getting pets in the kennel, and may reach to swat if her signals are not respected. We know she would feel much more comfortable to not only have more personal space to distance herself when she is done with an interaction, but also more leg room to run and play so she can expel pent up energy/frustration in a healthy way, so we would love to secure a foster home for her ASAP.

  • Shnitzel

Shnitzel is a shy, nervous girl who has been feeling overwhelmed here at the shelter. She came to BARCS after being found wandering a busy street by herself. She is under socialized, but has been slowly warming up to staff and volunteers. We would love to find this girl a foster home where she can continue to socialize and show her true personalty.

  • Summer Showers

Summer Showers, a delightful 11-year-old lady, found herself at BARCS through no fault of her own. Described by her previous owner as incredibly affectionate and sweet, Summer Showers has thrived in environments with both cats and children, showcasing her adaptability and loving nature. A serene and charming addition to any family, this seasoned beauty seeks a loving home to revel in her golden years, spreading warmth and companionship wherever she goes. As a senior gal, she would be much more comfortable in a foster home than in a kennel.

  • Orphan Kittens

We are frequently in need of more foster home for orphan kittens, or moms and kittens, arriving at he shelter. These can range from babies who need to be bottle fed every few hours to older kittens who are able to eat on their own and just need a comfortable place to stay until they are old enough to be adopted. If you are interested in fostering kittens, please reach out to our Cat Foster Team today!

  • Atlantis

If you can't already tell from her photo, Atlantis is the sweetest thing! She was originally found outside as a stray, but she seems to be content in our care and soaking up all the love, attention, and pets she can. This pretty girl is described by our volunteers as "the nicest cat," and she is also quite the professional biscuit maker, too. Atlantis has some current medical needs (swollen forelimb and drainage) and would love a foster home while she receives additional care and awaits rescue or adoption.
