BARCS Animal Shelter Receives $100,000 Investment from Petco Love
This lifesaving award will extend efforts to save more animals’ lives in Baltimore City
BALTIMORE, MD — April 2024: BARCS Animal Shelter is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a lifesaving $100,000 investment from Petco Love. This generous funding will be used to directly support lifesaving efforts at BARCS, the largest animal shelter in Maryland and the only open-admission shelter serving Baltimore City animals and their residents.
Each year, BARCS is growing, evolving and working to implement programs that benefit animals in need and support families with pets. This progress has been made possible by innovative, lifesaving programs and community efforts. The Petco Love grant will help to further increase save rates by working to find positive outcomes for every individual animal.
“This grant allows us to continue to bring our pets out into the community to promote adoption; reunite missing pets with their families; and work to decrease the population of outdoor community cats through spay/neuter,” said Jennifer Brause, Executive Director of BARCS. “We are beyond thrilled to see these vital programs continue to thrive. Thank you to Petco Love for helping us make a lifesaving difference in Baltimore.”

About BARCS
The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) is the largest companion animal shelter in Maryland. Each year, BARCS takes in more than 11,000-12,000 homeless animals including dogs, cats, small companion animals, wildlife, farm animals and exotics. As an open-admission shelter, BARCS does not turn away any animal in need of shelter, food and a loving touch and grants refuge to every abandoned, neglected, abused, lost or surrendered animal that comes through our door. Individuals from all over Baltimore come to BARCS every day of the week for reasons as diverse as reclaiming lost pets, adopting new furry family members, joining our foster and volunteer programs, and receiving free and low-cost resources to help them keep their pets in homes. BARCS' lifesaving programs seek to enhance the quality of life in our community through compassionate and impactful services to animals and people. BARCS makes a better community for Baltimore by providing humane care and shelter for homeless animals and promoting responsible pet ownership.
