Millie’s 30+ Foster Wins!

As the old adage goes, 'Don’t judge a book by its cover,' the same applies to shelter animals. This was the case for Millie, formerly known as Tonks during her stay at BARCS. When Millie first arrived, she was understandably nervous and unsure in the shelter environment. Luckily, her future humans saw past her initial reservations. They realized that Millie just needed someone to believe in her and give her the chance to shine. They understood that she hadn't been equipped with the tools to be the best pup she could be. They wanted to give her a chance, and the result? A wonderful love story that has touched many lives.

Let’s hear the story from Millie’s parents:

“This is Millie, formerly known as Tonks at BARCS. During our visit to BARCS to meet the available dogs, Millie leaned on her kennel door, clearly seeking affection. When we took her out to interact with us, she literally hugged us, and we knew she belonged with us. After implementing a strict two-week shutdown and gradually introducing her to our other two dogs, it became evident that Millie was severely undersocialized and lacked dog-to-dog communication skills. However, with patience and dedication, she quickly formed strong bonds with her new furry siblings!

“Fast forward a year, and I decided to give fostering a try. When I brought home a foster pup, Millie was beyond excited! Since then, we've fostered over 30 dogs, and Millie has proven to be the best foster sister! She's incredibly gentle when playing with the puppies and loves showing them around the house. Currently, we're fostering her "mini me," another boxer mix, and Millie couldn't be happier. She willingly shares her toys and helps teach the fosters manners. Millie excels at playing with puppies and even helps them communicate better. However, her favorite activity is cuddling with me. Despite her 85-pound frame, she's incredibly gentle when laying on top of me. Having Millie from BARCS has been an absolute joy, and I'm grateful for every moment with her!”

Millie's journey from uncertainty to confidence is a powerful reminder that every animal deserves a chance to thrive. Not only did she find her own place, but she also helped other pups prepare for loving homes, showing them that the world isn't so scary with loved ones by your side. Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of our furry friends.

Thank you to Millie’s parents for giving her a loving home, and to you, the reader, for taking the time to enjoy this Happy Tail.
